Body skin needs as much care as facial skin. As we age, the skin loses its suppleness, develops a 'crepey' appearance and loses its youthful 'sheen'.
Daily Body Routine
After your daily shower or bath, apply skin moisturiser to the whole of your body. If your skin is very dry, look for a rich, intensive moisturising product. Dry skin will also benefit from skin brushing which will improve circulation - helping to bring blood
closer to the surface of the skin. Use a natural bristle brush which is
less harsh on the skin. Alternatively, take the hard work out of body
brushing by using an electrical waterproof bodybrush powered by
AA batteries. Available in shops and from on-line stores.
Weekly Body Routine
Exfoliate your skin once a week. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, improves circulation and leaves your skin smooth and soft. Use coarse mineral salts mixed with a little oil and water for a really effective exfoliation - applying quite a high level of pressure as you scrub. Exercise caution if you have sensitive skin.
Monthly Body Routine
Treat yourself to an aromatherapy massage. Great for relieving stress and tension, improving circulation of blood and lymph, and conditioning the skin. Improved lymph flow helps the body to eliminate toxins that accumulate in the body. Good for cellulite and fluid retention. Combinations of essential oils used in the massage can also be used to treat arthritis, rheumatism, hormonal imbalances, and many other conditions.
Keep your legs and underarms silky smooth by removing unwanted hair. A variety of products exist for hair removal including shavers, creams, and roll on waxing kits. Waxing has the added advantage of removing surface dead skin cells. Consider electrolysis for permanent hair removal.
Avoiding Premature Ageing
Protect your skin from sun exposure by using a high factor sun screen or total sunblock. In summer, avoid outdoor activities during the middle of the day. Exposure to harsh sunlight can lead to premature ageing of the skin.
Do not smoke. Smoking dehydrates the skin, delays skin healing and is bad for you.
Drink a least two litres of water a day. Water hydrates the skin and helps to remove toxins from the body.
Body Cosmetics
There is a vast array of body cosmetics available to improve the appearance of the skin.
Bronzing gels, fake tanning creams, body shimmer gels, creams, lotions and powders and more. Also available are adhesive body jewels for that special occasion.
